Duval Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland noted the amount of preparedness he saw in voters who came in record numbers for the first two days of early voting.

“They’ve got their sample ballots,” he said.

“They’re ready to go.”

Over 35,000 people showed up this weekend to vote early.  Holland says he visited most of the polling places and saw “excited” and “prepared” voters.

“They’re not waiting to make up their minds because obviously they’re here today voting,” Holland said a few hours before early voting ended on Sunday.

This year there are eight days of early voting, each twelve hours long.  It’s a new policy from the twelve, eight-hour days in previous elections, though the number of actual early voting hours is still 96.

Holland says the first day on Saturday was a record-setter.

“We had over twenty-one-thousand, which beat our record number from 2008,” he said, referring to the one early voting day in 2008 which was extended to twelve hours by Gov. Crist.

Holland predicts the procrastinators will slow down the polls significantly come November 6.

“Those are probably the ones I’m worried the most about because they’ll spend the longest in the voting booth…That’s what you’ll see, typically, on Election Day,” he said.

He recommends voters fill out their sample ballots before coming to the polls, which you can print by CLICKING HERE.

Early voting goes through this Saturday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day.

So far, Holland says Democrats are leading the early voting totals.  As of the writing of this article on early Sunday evening, about 17,000 Democrats and 11,000 Republicans have voted early.

Holland says they’ve counted 41,000 absentee ballots with the majority being Republican.
