Suspect dead, officer injured in police-involved shooting

By Tiffany Griffith

Jacksonville, FL —

One man is dead, and a Jacksonville Police Officer is injured after an arrest attempt got violent.

Investigators say Officer Kevin Kilcoin and Officer Scott Williams responded to a domestic battery incident at a home off of 2100 North Pearl Street. As police attempted to handcuff the suspect, he reportedly began to struggle with the officers and make statements that he just got out of jail, he wasn't going back, and they would have to kill him.

Investigators say the suspect then tackled Officer Kilcoin and both fell to the ground. The man reportedly grabbed Kilcoin's gun and tried to pull it from the holster. That's when Officer Williams stepped back, fired several shots and killed the suspect on the scene.

Officials say one of those bullets hit or grazed Kilcoin, who was transported to the hospital with a minor injury to his leg, and he's expected to be released from the hospital overnight.

Kilcoin has been with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer for over four years. Officer Williams is a six year veteran of the department. Investigators will hold an 11am news conference to provide more details about the suspect and what lead to the deadly police-involved shooting.
