A Jacksonville teen is in jail for a shooting police say he texted about committing.
Police say 17-year-old Darell Moore has been charged with murder for fatally shooting 18-year-old Arzjahwun McGauley in an apparent drug-related robbery.
The shooting happened on June 5 on the 2900 block of Corleon Road in Northwest Jacksonville. Police say McGauley was shot in the chest while he was riding his bike and later died in the hospital from his injuries. The incident report obtained by WOKV says Moore was seen running away from the scene with another, currently unidentified, person. It further says Moore was the one who shot McGauley.
Police say the victim and suspect were acquaintances, and the shooting was apparently over a robbery dealing with marijuana.
During the course of the investigation, police obtained Moore’s phone records because they realized he was the last person to be in contact with the victim. From those, they found several text messages to other people reportedly implicating Moore in the shooting. Witnesses also confirm to police that he spoke about his role in the shooting as well and even showed up at a witness’s house after the shooting to wash the blood off of himself.
Moore was arrested on August 20th. He has refused to speak to police.
Although there was a second person reportedly seen leaving after the shooting, JSO says they are not looking for any other suspect at this time. If you have any information, however, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS or JSO at 904-630-0500.
