Teen sentenced for vandalizing marble lions

By Matt Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. —

A teenager will face a $500 fine, 300 hours of community service, and will have to write a letter of apology for vandalizing marble lions in St. Augustine.

19-year-old Montezz Blackmon was sentenced Monday for painting the eyes and nose of the lions on the Bridge of Lions red.  The statues are recognized as a symbol of the city throughout the area.

Blackmon was arrested on August 16 and charged with criminal mischief.  He pleaded no contest to the charge.
