Georgia police still working to piece together a timeline for what happened in the hours between when Glynn County Commission Tom Sublett dropped off a friend Monday night, and when his body was found the next morning.

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering tells WOKV right now his men are following up on different leads and looking for any witness with information that could help in the investigation.  Because of the suspicious nature, however, they are treating this as a homicide investigation.

He says Sublett dropped off a friend just before 11 PM Monday night, but when his wife noticed Sublett was not home by around 2 AM, she called police.

In addition to a number of law enforcement agencies that came out for the search, many friends also helped.  Doering says one close friend began to retrace the likely route Sublett would have taken to his home.

“Maybe he broke down on the side of the road, or just to see if something had happened,” he says.

Sublett’s car was found around 4 AM in a county park about 1.2 miles from his home in a county park at the base of the Frederica River, but his body was not in that location.  Doering says police then began to search in the wooded area and along the river where the car was found.

Around 6 AM is when Sublett’s body was found floating in a marina at St. Simon’s Island.

Investigators have worked through Tuesday, and Doering says it will be an early start to Wednesday as well.

“Right now, it’s still ongoing.  We don’t stop,” he says.

An autopsy is scheduled for 10 AM Wednesday, although Doering would not say just how long it could take to get in results.

He says if you have any information on this death, you can call the silent witness hotline at 912-264-1333.
