UPDATE: Two killed in wrong-way crash on I-10

By WOKV News Team

Jacksonville, FL —

Two people are dead and seven others critically injured in an overnight crash on I-10.

Florida Highway Patrol tells us a car driving the wrong way on I-10 just inside the Baker/Nassau County line crashed into a van that was carrying nine people around 2:30am.

The driver who caused the crash, 47-year-old Emile McPherson Whitney, is in critical condition.  Charges are pending, and FHP Captain Keith Gaston told WOKV News there are some clues in the vehicle that lead them to believe alcohol was involved.

The driver of the van, Nge Thay, sustained minor injuries, but the front passenger, Kaw Lay, has died.

There were seven other people in the van.  47-year-old Ta Nu was not wearing a seatbelt, and has died.  The remaining six people are in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville, and none were wearing seatbelts.

Gaston says some people in the van were family, and they were all returning from a restaurant they own in Lake City.
