Following up a story we brought you last week on WOKV, we're getting a look at the second part of a UNF poll and it looks like some think city council has room to improve here in Jacksonville.

Looking at the data you can see only 48 percent say they approve of the job city council is doing, which UNF associate political science professor Dr. Michael Binder says could be a lot worse.

"But if you start comparing the city council to other legislatures, say Congress, which is down in the low teens, it's not the worst."

Binder says it shows that both the mayor and city council have a difficult job, and that approval numbers need to be something they are paying attention to because in the end, he says, it comes down to elections.

The poll also shows Jacksonville residents aren't willing to pay higher taxes on anything besides education. In the first part of the poll last week we told you 64 percent said they'd pay more in taxes if the money was going to schools. This new data shows seeing just 39 percent willing to support a tax increase on the arts and 40 percent on libraries.  Binder says that shows more and more Jacksonville residents are realizing education is needed to make ends meet.

"You can't get a high school degree, go to work at a factory, and live a middle-class lifestyle.  It just doesn't work."

Also noted in the poll, 77 percent of the 917 people polled said they were satisfied with the opportunities to enjoy arts and cultural activities.
