We’ve learned more about the Westside man who shot at two teens attempting to burglarize his home.
A police report we’ve obtained says 37-year-old Erick Lashon McGhee was in his home on Gasparilla Park Court just after noon Tuesday when he heard the doorbell ring several times. He looked out a window but didn’t recognize the person standing at the door, so he did not answer. He describes the first suspect as a heavyset 16- to 18-year-old wearing a red sweater.
McGhee told police he saw a shadow by his daughter’s bedroom window a short time later, and then heard the glass break on one of the rear windows of his home. He then saw a second suspect- a white male wearing a black backpack, blue jeans and a grey sweater- come in to the living room through that window.
McGhee fired multiple shots from his two handguns, a 9 mm and .38, at the second suspect, although he is unsure if the man was hit.
Police later found the second suspect’s clothing and backpack in a wooded area around the home, but have yet to locate either suspect.
It also appears that one of the bullets actually entered a neighboring home, although police have not yet established contact with anyone in that home.
Both suspects involved face a charge of burglary on an occupied dwelling without a weapon.
