JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

On Tuesday, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz of Texas beat out Lt. Governor David Dewhurst for a spot in the general election in November.  Friday morning, he was greeting voters and spreading his infectious personality amongst conservatives at the Red State Gathering at the Omni hotel in downtown….

"I intend to spend an awful lot of the next 90 days helping elect other strong Constitutional conservatives to the U.S. Senate," Cruz told a packed room.

Cruz was the kickoff speaker for Red State Gathering, a conference hosted by RedState.com.  Its founder is Eric Erickson, who fills in sometimes for Neal Boortz on WOKV.  He said in his travels he has seen incredible support for what he called a 'great awakening.'

"Millions of Texans, millions of Americans are standing up and saying 'enough!'

Cruz was charismatic, magnetic, and passionate, talking about how his father came to the country speaking no English and with $100 sewed into his underwear.  Cruz was a darkhorse in the Texas primary, joking at one point about how he was at two percent in the polls when the margin of era was three percent.  But Cruz made his stance very clear: he says he’s a constitutional conservative who is tired of a do-nothing Congress and a Senate where good bills go to die.

"One of the oldest definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

He said his first priority in the Senate would be to repeal “every word of Obamacare.” He faces Democratic nominee Paul Sadler in November.
