JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

In four days, Republican voters in Duval and Nassau counties will nominate either Mike Weinstein or Aaron Bean for state Senate.

Both of them appeared side-by-side on Jacksonville's Morning News Friday morning.

They were asked about the contentious tone of the campaign.

Bean says he feels he has put forth a very positive campaign.

"Everything that's approved by Aaron Bean, money that we've spent on behalf of the Aaron Bean campaign is approved by me -- and I'm proud to say it's all been positive," he told moderator Roxy Tyler.

Weinstein says he tries to ensure that all ads put out by outside groups on his behalf are truthful.

"If I become aware of those messages and I feel that they;re inappropriate or dishonest, I will immediately let them know that that's inappropriate and I'll do everything I can to get them off," he says.

Speaking of ads, each one was given the opportunity to set the record straight on attack ads that they felt distorted the truth.

Bean noted an ad that suggests that he favors illegal immigration.

"There's an ad that says. . .illegal immigrats should receive discounted benefits in Florida.  That's not true," he says.

Weinstein noted an ad that says he's not even a Floridian.

"They're putting out that I'm from New Jersey.  I left New Jersey 46 years ago, as long as my opponent has been alive," Weinstein says.

They were also asked what they felt makes them the most qualified for the office of State Senator.

Bean noted his diverse experience.

"We bring a resume and experiences. . .in the public sector and the private sector," says Bean.

Weinstein echoed that sentiment in touting his record.

"In the 35 years I've been here I've both been in government and (the) private sector."

The winner of Tuesday's primary will likely face Democrat Nancy Soderberg in the November general election.
