Woman saved from burning car

By Matt Augustine

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

A woman has a Good Samaritan to thank for her life.

Johnny Fowler was driving on I-10 east Sunday when he, his wife, and his son saw a car smoking on the side of the road.  Fowler pulled over and realized flames were leaping out from under the car.

"We noticed a whole bunch of smoke coming out.  And me, being a wrecker driver, I looked at my wife and said 'that looks like a wreck," Fowler told our news partner channel 4.

The woman's car had broken down near the Lane Avenue exit, but the woman, who Fowler assumes was using her car as a safe haven to avoid traffic, apparently had no idea her car was on fire.

"I'm running to the vehicle, you know, doing this motion [arm waving] to the lady, telling her to 'Get out! Get out!'  The whole time she was just sitting there," Fowler said.  "'I never knew it was on fire. I never knew it was on fire.'  That's all she kept saying."

The Fowlers say they gave their contact information to the woman but never got her name.  JSO and FHP got reports of the car burning on I-10, but none of their reports had a woman's name, so who she was remains a mystery.
