Woman shoots ex outside Westside post office

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

A woman is in custody after police say she shot her ex-boyfriend to death outside a Westside post office on Sunday afternoon in broad daylight. 22-year-old Arianne Myers is charged with murder.

People who frequent the area at Blanding and Townsend tell our partner Action News the post office is a popular one.

"We come here all the time.  This is our post office.  My husband has a post office box here," says one regular customer.

Lt. Rob Schoonover with JSO's homicide unit says on Sunday a domestic incident turned violent when Myers saw her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Harold Davis, went to confront him, pulled out a pistol and shot him multiple times.  Myers then tried to flee the scene in a Ford Focus but she was spotted by retired JSO Sergeant Mark Shinholser, who followed the suspect while on the phone with police.

JSO was able to catch up to the woman on Timuquana Road, where she crashed her car into another vehicle.  Witnesses say the woman didn't go quietly when police finally got their hands on her.

"They just took her down and the whole time she's fighting and acting like a fool," says Janey Denmark, who was working at a nearby laundromat when the crash happened.

For some, like Denmark, the incident serves as a reminder to always keep your head on a swivel because you never know what's happening around you.

"Scary. Very scary because,  I mean, it could have been anybody. I could have been out there with my grandkids," says Denmark.

Lt. Schoonover says that Myers and Davis had ended their relationship several months ago and had only been in contact with one another since then so Davis could retrieve some of his possessions.

Police say Myers went to the hospital with a broken arm and will be interviewed by police and have her first court appearance when she is released.
