Jacksonville, FL —
One man is dead following a wrong-way crash which completely closed down part of I-95 all morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 46-year-old Jimmy Carracter was driving southbound on I-95 northbound at Emerson at 1:40 this morning, when he struck a Honda Civic driving in the proper direction. Carracter’s car spun after hitting the car, landing it in the path of a third vehicle, a big rig.
After the truck hit Carracter’s car, the car then hit a guardrail on the right shoulder. The truck also hit a guardrail on the right shoulder.
24-year-old Lauren Conville, who was driving the Civic, sustained minor injuries. Her passenger, as well as the big rig driver, 43-year-old Ricardo Wong, were unharmed.
FHP is now investigating whether Carracter had been drinking.
The Florida Department of Transportation has planned emergency repairs on the San Diego Road overpass, just north of Emerson, because of this crash. One northbound lane of I-95 will be closed from 9 PM-5 AM for the repairs.
