Reporter's Notebook Day 5: Wrapping Up In Style

I was not a part of the Super Bowl in Jacksonville back in 2005, but I assume the local hype and preparation was similar to what I saw last night. Some roads were closed, and the ones that were opened were becoming congested.

When I came into the building, there were crowded hallways and it was an adventure trying to find a way to get to the press area.

Nobody seemed to know exactly how to get to the press box, other than to tell me where the freight elevator was located.

So, along with a shipment of what appeared to be food and chairs, I made my way up to the press area to find the Fox broadcast booth that I was assigned to, where I pretty soon realized there was an elevator service that brought one directly to the section I needed to be at.

The place was packed, as you have probably know by now. Musicians ranged from Sheryl Crow to Stevie Wonder, and speakers ranged from Al Gore to Senator Bill Richardson.

Someone told me Jamie Fox just walked down the skybox hallway. I took a peak out, and there was the man himself.

I was also told that Oprah was in the building. Talk about a major ego destroyer!  It makes you miss showing up to an event and being the only media guy there.

How about showing up to a historic night, with some of the biggest names in television, movies, music and politics taking center stage as well as mixing and mingling?

Last night was so much more than just a speech at the end of a party's convention.

What I want to know now is if all this hype, all of this excitement and all of this "unity" will translate into votes in November.

Next week the Republicans will get their shot at putting on a show for the nation, and my guess is it will be a huge contrast in styles.

The Democrats have a young, up and coming politician with a message of hope and change, but little political experience.

The Republicans have a much older candidate with years of military experience, political experience and a preference for town hall meetings over flashy speeches.

Which will the American public chose in November? Let the speculation continue.
