All lanes of I95 southbound at SR 206 have reopened following two separate crashes this morning that sent two people to the hospital.
The first crash occurred early this morning when one semi rear-ended another. One of those semis then drove off the highway and in to the woods, catching fire.
While crews were clearing that scene, a second accident between a semi and a tractor trailer occurred just north of the initial accident. The semi cab crashed in to the road and caused a gouge that is considered a road hazard, so the Florida Department of Transportation is on scene at this time performing repairs.
Accident reports filed with FDOT also confirm one person was “life-flighted” and a second person transported to a local hospital.
We've also confirmed with FDOT that between 60 and 70 gallons of diesel fuel were spilled on the highway as a result of the crashes. Cleanup crews with the Department of Environmental Protection are en route now.
We will update you as soon as more information is available on the cause of the crashes and condition of those involved.
