If you’re just not a fan of waiting in line, and fast food just isn’t fast enough, Taco Bell might have a solution for you.
“The restaurant is developing an app that will allow customers to order and pay for their food using a cellphone.” (Via KHQA)
Nation’s Restaurant News first reported the news, saying Taco Bell's main demographic would be young Millennials. Jeff Jenkins, mobile leader for the chain, said, “For these kids, it’s not whether you have a smartphone; it’s which smartphone do you have … If you can get 10 million people to download your app, you’re putting a portal to Taco Bell in 10 million pockets.”
“To make sure your meal is hot and ready the app will even use a GPS locator to track you; once you get close to the restaurant the app will alert the kitchen so they can start prepping your food.” (Via WPHL)
The idea of using a mobile app to order lunch is nothing new — Chipotle has been leading the pack in mobile ordering. But Taco Bell plans to take it a step further than its competitors. (Via
According to The Verge, “You'll be able to choose whether to pick up your food in store or via the drive-thru. So if you show up and see a long stretch of cars, you can go inside for faster service. (A separate pick up section will be established for mobile orders, speeding up the process even further.)”
This news could be coming at just the right time, as a survey by the National Restaurant Association late last year showed, "Half of all adults say they would use a smartphone or tablet app to place takeout/delivery orders, while three-quarters of 18-to-34-year-olds say the same."
Nation’s Restaurant News also notes McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A are said to be testing mobile apps. Taco Bell is expected to roll out its app later this year.
