Baby Doc Appears in Court
Former Hatian dictator Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier appeared in court Thursday on charges of corruption and crimes against humanity. Duvalier received a police escort after failing to show up for two earlier hearings last week. At 19, Duvalier took over power from his father in 1971 and continued the iron fisted rule- using a violent secret police force to suppress opposition. He fled Haiti in 1986 and lived in exile in France until returning unexpectedly to Haiti in 2001.
