Typhoon Hits Southern Philippines

Typhoon Bopha made landfall in southern Philippines early Tuesday (December 4), bringing heavy rains and strong winds and sending 41,600 people living in coastal areas to flee their homes. Packing winds of 175 kph (108 mph) and gusts of up to 210 kph (130 mph), Bopha is the strongest cyclone to hit the Philippines this year, making landfall over the agricultural and mining province of Davao Oriental in the Mindanao region.
