Palin Heads To The UN

Previous Posts

By Jamie Dupree

While dozens of world leaders including President Bush will be at the United Nations this week, the visit of GOP running mate Sarah Palin will certainly stir some interest amongst the diplomatic press in New York City.

Palin meets today with several US allies, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia, the latter fresh off his weekend soiree at the White House, honored by President Bush.

On Wednesday, look for even more headlines when Palin supposedly is going to meet U2 lead singer Bono.

One can only wish that the venerable New York city press corps, not those who cover the United Nations, but the gruff and tenacious local press could get a shot at covering Palin's visit.

And someone else who will be roaming the halls at the UN will be President Bush.  No word on whether the two will be able to shake hands and exchange pleasantries.

The mere presence of Palin at the UN, and pictures of her meeting with Henry Kissinger and others is sure to push some supporters of Barack Obama in the 212 and 202 area codes to lose their cookies.

On Saturday night a few of my long time friends were almost frothing at the mouth as they uncorked a littany of anti-Palin blather, further confirming that McCain's pick gets under the skin of a lot of Democrats and clouds their Election Judgment.

While Obama's team has done a good job of late staying on message, the media continues to be the best "ally" of the Republicans, as every story with a dig that we write and broadcast just confirms for GOP leaning voters that there must be something "right" with Sarah Palin.

Former President Bill Clinton said much of that in a chat with reporters in New York on Monday, as he urged Democrats to stop attacking Palin, whom he referred to as a "good choice."

"Why say, ever, anything bad about a person? Why don't we like them and celebrate them and be happy for her elevation to the ticket?"

Bubba knows you have to keep your eye on the ball right now, with six weeks left until Election Day.

And then, the best quote of all, when Clinton was asked about Palin's ability to attract big crowds and energize GOP voters.

"I come from Arkansas, I get why she's hot out there," said Clinton.

"People look at her, and they say, 'All those kids. Something that happens in everybody's family I'm glad she loves her daughter and she's not ashamed of her. Glad that girl's going around with her boyfriend. Glad they're going to get married.'"

Bill Clinton may be a flawed character, but he knows a little about elections.

The VP debate is going to be interesting to say the least, because it will give us another national dose of Palin Palin Palin.

More Tums please for 212 and 202.
