Tea Party Post Mortem

Previous Posts

By Jamie Dupree

We had a lot of talk last week about change at the federal level when it comes taxes and spending.

Starting this week, we'll see if that talk was just talk, or if many Republicans will heed the call for change and actually sign on to tax reform bills in the Congress.

As of the opening of business today, there were 51 lawmakers who were sponsors of the FairTax in the House, and three in the U.S. Senate.

There are three members of the House and one Senator who back the idea of a flat tax.

Is that going to change as a result of the tea parties of last week?

It won't be hard to tell.  We will just watch the list of sponsors of certain tax reform bills and see if that changes.

Neal Boortz says he's been told that the GOP leadership in the House is actively trying to keep lawmakers from signing on to the FairTax.  Why?

Because it is too easily demagogued.

We'll see if the Tea Parties produce any action or not.
