In Jacksonville, Florida -
Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum has decided not to do any more campaign events in Florida before Tuesday's primary in the Sunshine State, and will instead campaign in states coming up on the election calendar.
"The Rick Santorum for President Campaign will expand nationally this week with campaign stops in Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nevada in the coming days," read the Sunday night press release from the Santorum campaign.
The schedule made no mention of the health of Santorum's three year old daughter, who was hospitalized in recent days. Her illness had forced Santorum to scrap his planned events on Sunday in Florida.
Instead of coming to Florida before the vote, Santorum on Monday will stump for votes in Missouri and Minnesota. Tuesday he will go to Colorado and Nevada.
Nevada holds GOP caucuses this coming Saturday; Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota have votes a week from tomorrow on February 7, so Santorum has obviously decided to get the jump on the others in those states.
Despite debate performances that received good reviews in Florida, Santorum could not break out with the voters here - just as he had failed to gain a big spark in South Carolina earlier this month.
Polls from this weekend showed Santorum and Ron Paul falling further behind Romney and Gingrich in Florida. Most of those Florida polls had Santorum in third place, with Paul in fourth.
Other than the debates, Paul did not waste any time or energy in Florida, as he held no events in the Sunshine State after the South Carolina vote, as he will also be focusing on upcoming caucus states.
