Another Day Another Eagles Signing

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

The big story yesterday was the same big story we’ve been hearing for the past week. The Philadelphia Eagles managed to get more free agents to take less money to join their club. Ronnie Brown was the big one signing the long time Miami starter to a 1 year backup role with the team. Kind of hard to believe since Brown was one of the top backs in this year’s class. Same scenario for another player right tackle Ryan Harris when he signed with Philly. Harris took a one year deal which is really surprising since he was considered the best right tackle in free agency and will probably start for the Eagles this year. If you’re sick of hearing nonstop Eagles news on all the sports networks it won’t stop anytime soon. The Birds still have to worry about camp holdout Desean Jackson, they may be in the market for a linebacker, and a possible trade of their cornerback Asante Samuel.

Eagles weren’t the only team taking all the top free agents yesterday. The Seahawks landed one of if not the best tightend in this year’s class the former Raider Zach Miller. Miller had 126 catches and 8 TDs the past two seasons, not to bad playing with those great Oakland QBs. Miller will join John Carlson for one of the better 1-2 punch tightends in the league. The Saints added some tonnage to the D line yesterday signing 317lbs tackle Aubrayo Franklin. Franklin was most recently a starter with the 49ers but the sad part is he isn’t the heaviest man on the Saints. That honor goes to 350lbs Shaun Rodgers

Finishing off the day was a handful of rookie draft picks being signed. The Colts, Saints, and Browns all signed their first round guys and the Patriots locked up both their second round picks. Today you will see a few straggling free agents signed, a couple more draft picks but the big news will be the holdouts. Most camp holdouts are back in but two huge names remain, Desean Jackson and Chris Johnson. Jackson is rumored to be coming back sometime this week while Johnson’s holdout could last all preseason.
