Jags Bills Recap

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

If I asked you before the season started of the three who would the Jags look the worst against in the preseason, Patriots, Falcons, or Bills I bet 99 percent wouldn’t say the Bills. But that’s the reality for the first team Jags players. The Defense made Ryan Fitzpatrick look like Tom Brady and the Offense needed almost the entire first half before they got any points.

I guess I’ll start with the offense, I understand that without Mojo the team will score less points, but let’s look at how the first team offense scored so far this preseason, a David Garrard broken play scramble. That basically it, don’t get me wrong it was a great highlight for Sportscenter but not the type of play you want to see a lot of. The line broke down, nobody was open for Garrard to throw to, and he took a couple of good shots during the run.  On to the great receivers of the Jags, receivers that are good enough to keep the Jags from acquiring any free agents, and receivers that are so good the Jags top 2 guys combine for the impressive total of 75 yards. Let’s not forget about every ones favorite Cecil Shorts, 1 catch 3 yards. Three games into the preseason the Jags first team has zero passing TDs.

Let’s not forget about the defense even though the Jags seemed to forget how to play D. I was pretty impressed through the first two games with the defense. They managed to hold the top teams in the NFC and AFC down but against one of the worst teams in the league the Jags defense was sad. Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t an elite QB in this league but you wouldn’t have guessed it on Saturday. Fitzpatrick went 11 for 12 165 yards and two touchdowns. The defensive line who was missing a few key guys still haven’t recorded a sack this preseason.

The third preseason game is supposed to be the warm up for regular season. If this was the dress rehearsal the Jags team is in for a rough season. The good news is theses games don’t count and a few top players should be ready for the home opener. Short turnaround for the Jags this week with a Thursday night game then the regular season kicks off in less than two weeks.
