Sometime the truth is stranger than fiction and you can’t make this stuff up are two phrases commonly used but never have they been more true in the recent events involving Jerry Sandusky. Yesterday was his first day in court for a pretrial hearing. He pled not guilty on all the counts of sexual abuse but that’s not the unusual part. In a post court press conference Sandusky’s lawyer said “anyone who believes the allegations that university officials failed to report it, should call 1-800-reality”. Problem is that 1-800-reality is a gay sex hot line number.
Really???I’m sure Sandusky’s lawyer had no clue but again this goes into the you can’t make this stuff up category. What are chance chances that a man on trial for sex crimes with young boys has his lawyer tell people if you don’t believe him go call this gay sex hotline? That would be like OJ’s lawyer telling everyone he didn’t do it and go listen to 1-800-killed my wife. This trial has potential to be just as big as the OJ Simpson one during the 90s. You can’t turn on ESPN without hearing Sandusky coverage and every nightly news show has a story about it. Add all the controversy surrounding Mike McQueary and this latest screw up by the defense shows that this trial could turn into a circus really quick.
Now I’m not saying I hope this trial will be fun but throughout history people seem two take these trials and turn them into a soap operas. OJ, Casey Anthony, and Michael Jackson all took the spotlight away from the victims and turned it into the circus. The Sandusky trial looks to be the next one in line.
