Big Question Mark For The Jags

You can make an argument that any time a player gets hurt it really hurts your team but if your management does a good job scouting players and they all practice hard someone can usually step in right away and play well. Even a quarterback injury isn’t a season ender if you have the right system in place. Just look at the Patriots when Tom Brady came off the bench for a hurt Drew Bledsoe or when Brady went down and Matt Cassel stepped in.  The one position that maybe the hardest to replace is the kicker, a team’s whole strategy has to be changed when a kicker goes down. You have to go for it on 4th down more, you miss out on points, and it even hurts your defense with a lack of field position.

The Jaguars like all teams only carry on kicker on the roster so when you see on the injury report that Josh Scobee is questionable it presents a huge problem. Scobee has been easily the most consistent player for the Jags this year and maybe the best player only missing on two field goals and hitting every single extra point. In the first primetime game Scobbe’s leg single footedly beat the Ravens and the Jags haven’t been shut out this season because of him as well. If Scobee can’t go the Jags will turn to former Georgia Kicker Brandon Coutu, he was signed to the practice squad earlier in the week and can be activated as little as an hour before the game.

This is the issue you have when your kicker goes down, you have to turn to a guy that has played all year or hasn’t played ever in the NFL. For the Jags its worse since Scobee is arguably the best offensive weapon the Jags have. If he can’t go it may be a long night for the interim coach on his first away game this season. We will find out a definite on his status about an hour before kickoff.
