New CBA In The NFL?

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Now we are finally getting some info on what the new CBA could look like in the NFL. This gives us all hope that a deal will be done very soon but remember no one has voted on this proposal and we haven’t heard how either sides feels about it. Now the owners and players rep are expected to meet up today and tomorrow and hopefully we see a deal within a week or two. Here’s what the new deal could include.

  • Players get 48 percent of "all revenue."
  • Players' share will never dip below 46.5 percent,
  •  Rookie wage scale
  • Four years to become an unrestricted free-agent.
  • No 18-game regular season in this deal but it still can be discussed
  • 16-game Thursday night TV package beginning in 2014.
  • Teams have to spend nearly 100 percent of the salary cap.
  • Owners get some credits for funding new stadiums.
  • improved health care, pension benefits to double to $18 million by 2016 for retired players

Remember this isn’t a done deal it’s just the framework of a new CBA. I think we all agree this is a huge step forward but we still have to see how the two sides will vote on the proposal. Any step back in these negations could be disastrous this late in the game; training camp is less than 1 month away, the first preseason game is in 6 weeks and the regular season starts 1 month after that.
