NBA Draft Preview

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Tonight could either be really fun or a big dud, it’s the NBA Draft. Part of the reason this draft could get so crazy is that every NBA draft only has 2 rounds, 30 picks per round but not every team has a first rounder this year. We could see a trade as early as the number pick, no matter who picks it looks like Duke’s Kyrie Irving will go number 1 and Arizona’s Derrick Williams should go number 2. After that it gets a little dicey between the international players and trades.

This year we could see three international players go in the top 7 or fall outside the top 15. Enes Kantor the 6’11” center from Turkey, Jan Vesely a 6’11” forward from the Czech Republic , and Jonas Valanciunas the big 7 footer from Lithuania. All have great up sides but there are a few problems with these guys. Vesely is under contract in Europe until 2013, so whoever drafts him will have to buy out his contract or be forced to wait. Valanciunas is only 18 so he can’t join the NBA for a year so a team can draft him let him play out a year in Lithuania then come over.

Adding to the drama this year is all the trade bait being thrown around and not just no name role players, we are talking perennial all stars. The Spurs are looking to move up from 29 by letting go of starting guard Tony Parker. Possible landing spot is 5, 7,or 10 I think they want the big Man from Lithuania. Another name out there is Steve Nash from Phoenix; rumor is the Suns want to move up to number 2 and take Derrick Williams. This seems logical, Suns need a big man since Stoudemire left and why not take a local kid. Next name out there is none other than Mr. Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom of the Lakers. The rumor is he’s heading to Philly for the number 16 pick.

If this was all there was that would be enough but we haven’t even talked about the Kemba Walker and Jimmer Fredette. These two guys had the best NCAA Tournament and no one knows where they could fall, both could go in the top 10, top 15 or late first round. Here’s your draft order
