Early Lead For The U.S.

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

It was a great start for the ladies at 2001 World Cup in Germany. A 2-0 victory over North Korea in the opening game gives the U.S. the early lead in the group. Team USA was tied after one half of play in the game but was finally able to put a few in on the Korean goalie. Lauren Cheney and Rachel Buehler both got into the goal column, Cheney in the 54th minute and Buehler’s in the 76th.

Hope Solo did what she does best, win and get shutouts. She made 7 stops on the day to record her 4th straight World Cup shutout. Solo still yet to lose any game she starts in the World Cup and she’ll try to keep that streak alive on Saturday against Columbia. Here are the Group C standings through one game.
