Why Is Online Poker Illegal

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Big news for all the online poker players out there Full Tilt Poker is meeting its end. The online poker company has its license suspended basically ending poker for thousands of players online and this ruling won’t just affect Full Tilt. Pokerstars, Absolute Poker. And all other online gaming sites will soon be on the radar. But I really don’t understand why online poker is illegal.

There are very few places in the U.S that have full casinos, Vegas Atlantic City and New Orleans but the lines of what’s legal has been more and more blurred over the years. More and more states are allowing slot machines, states like New Jersey and Delaware were considering sportsbooks to be legal, and don’t forget the whole “internet Café” debate. Let’s take a look right here in Jacksonville, we heard a story yesterday of a third Poker room might be opening up in our area. Poker rooms are perfectly legal here so anyone of age can go anytime play single games or tournaments for real cash. How about the Gambling cruises you can hop on a boat and drive out to international waters and Gamble to your heart’s content. Again perfectly legal you can go in a boat and play all the table games you want. So the question is why can’t you do the same thing on the internet.

Now I understand you can’t do things on the internet that are illegal, you can’t by drugs you can’t look at child porn but those are things that are illegal in every state. We’ve already established that’s it’s legal to play poker in Jacksonville  it’s also legal to take a boat from Jacksonville for the sole purpose of gambling so why can’t we do the same thing from the comfort of our own homes. The only reason I can think of is when you gamble online off shore online you take the governments cut out of the equation. You don’t pay taxes on your winnings and the company doesn’t have to pay taxes either. That’s the real issue not that gambling is wrong it’s that big brother want their piece of the pie. Luckily my sports betting site hasn’t been effected yet but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.
