A New King For Cleveland

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Doesn’t it just seem fair that Cavs will get the first pick in this year’s NBA Draft? Just a few short months after the city was up in arms over the king leaving town, they get their chance to find the next savior of Cleveland. But is there another Lebron James in this year’s draft?

Odds on favorite to go number one this year is Kyrie Irving a point guard from Duke. But here’s the problem when was the last time a Duke player made a huge splash in the NBA, sure they’ve had guys like Christian laettner, Carlos Boozer, and Grant Hill. Those guys had good NBA Careers but I don’t think they come close to stacking up to the popularity, skill and longevity that a Lebron James has. I do think the one guy in this draft that can come close to matching the excitement that James has is Kemba Walker. This guy lit up everyone in the NCAA and Big East Tournaments. Will he be as good as Lebron, probably not but will he be able to rise to the status of legend? I think he can.

Walker reminds me a lot of when Michael Vick first came into the NFL. No one thought he would be the greatest qb’s of all time but the excitement that revolved around Vick made him one of the most popular players at the time. Nobody is saying Kemba will be as great as Lebron or Kobe but he is definitely someone the city can rally around and a guy that you can expect to see in espn’s top plays on a nightly basis. Is he the best player in this year’s draft, I don’t know but I think he is the perfect pick for Cleveland. i don't know if i'd take him with the first pick but they could pick up walker at 4  and at a lot cheaper price.
