An Injury Brings Hope

Previous Posts

Yesterday was a huge day for injuries for the Jags but the one hurt player could have the biggest impact on the Jags season doesn’t even play for the team. The loss of starting tackle Ebon Britton isn’t as bad as it may seem. Britton only played 3 games this year so the Jags already proved they have capable backups to take over his spot. Adding Rashean Mathis to injured reserve might hurt this team more. It’s actually pretty funny that for the past 2 or three years fans and analysts have wondered why Mathis was still on the Jags. He was constantly getting beat for big plays wondering if his bad plays outweighed his good ones. Unfortunately for Mathis he was having one of his best seasons as a Jag in recent years. its an even bigger loss considering how well the D has played all season.

The biggest injury of the day though had nothing to do with the Jags. Texans QB Matt Schaub will be sidelined for the rest of the season with a foot injury. Now it may just be a pipe dream but this could give just a little glimmer of hope for the Jags. The past few weeks the Texans have looked as dominate as any team in the league but now through an unproven QB in the mix anything can happen. Texans are on the bye this week so if the Jags beat Cleveland this week it moves them to 3 games back in the AFC South.  Next on the schedule comes a home game against the Texans and their first game without Schaub. Win that the Jags are just two games out with 5 to play. Then the Texans still have to play a tough Atlanta team and the surprise 2 loss Bengals, the Jags get San Diego and Tampa two teams that have been very up and down all season.

Its not be the most probable scenario but the loss of Schuab could really open up this division again. The way the Jags defense is playing all the offense needs to do is put out just a few more points and they could turn it around. Before the Schuab injury the Jags had almost zero shot to make the playoffs now there odds have slightly increased but we could be talking about the Jags a game back or even tied for the division lead in mid December. Or this could just be another tease like the last two seasons.
