Back in the preseason I said the Jags would finish the year with 6 wins. Not because I thought the Jags weren’t that good but if you look at the insanely tough schedule it just made sense. Unfortunately in my calculations I figured a win over Carolina would be one of the 6. The reason I bring it up is I also thought the Jags would beat Cincinnati because it made sense. The Bengals were a team that struggled last year plus in the offseason they lost their starting QB and top two receivers. Looks like this year the Bengals are better than people expected.
Cincinnati is 2-2 on the year including a win over the then undefeated Buffalo Bills and they’re doing it on defense. They rank 3rd in passing defense, 7th against the run, and giving up 18 points a game not good for the Jags who only average 10 points per game. On offense they are doing exactly what the Jags want to do. A rookie QB is managing the game while there running back is chunking up yards. When all is said and done the Jags may finish with a better record than the Bengals but for Sunday it’s gonna be a dog fight. Low scoring, ball control game, and whichever rookie QB plays better will probably win the game which brings us back to the prediction.
This game is the Jags best chance to win through the bye week, after the Bengals its Steelers, Ravens, and Texans. Lose this week and the Jags can easily be 1-7 heading into the November 13th date with the Colts. It will be really tough to even think about a 6 win season after starting 1-7. Let that happen and it’s a guarantee that the Jags will be competing for the number 1 pick and not the playoffs and Jack Del Rio will be competing for unemployment.
