Preseason Is Over

Previous Posts

By JayGray

Jags finished off the pre season with a 1-3 record after their 24-17 loss to the Rams. Now we all know that records don’t matter in the preseason but some numbers do matter, like 0 and 27.

Zero, the number of touchdown passes that David Garrard threw this entire preseason. Zero, the number of TD catches the Jags top receivers caught all preseason. Maybe the biggest zero of all, zero injuries this last game. it’s no secret the Jags haven’t looked good this preseason but there is a glimmer of hope. We really haven’t seen Maurice Jones Drew all preseason and he really is the engine that makes this offense go. And we have yet to see the full defense play together at all this preseason. The patch work defense has looked pretty good at times but it also has had its problems. If the starters can all get on the same page this D can be pretty tough.

The other big number is 27, that’s the number of guys who NFL dream will come to an end tomorrow. The big cut down day is Saturday by 4pm where the Jags roster must go from 80 to 53. Jack Del Rio says that the roster is pretty much set except for 4 or 5 guys. I guarantee tonight will be a very sleepless night for a bunch of players around the NFL.

The preseason is over and now we can start talking some real football. Between the lockout, coaching changes, and the mystery surrounding Peyton Manning’s injury the AFC is more wide open than ever.  The problem is the Jags have an extremely tough schedule but if they can break off a few wins in a row and surprise a few teams, the Jags have a real shot to make the playoffs. Unfortunately with the quality of teams all over the AFC, it looks like it’s the AFC South title or no playoffs for the Jags.
