You know your team is sick if the entire NFL knows your game plan and still can’t stop it. I’m not saying the Saints win every week but the teams that beat them do it by scoring more points. I sound like John Madden there, seriously though it’s about outscoring the Saints and not holding them to just field goals. It sounds easy, play good defense and control the clock by running the ball but it’s very rare the New Orleans is held under 21 points. For the Jags it means doing something they haven’t done at all this year, get TDs. Working between the 20’s and depending on Josh Scobee just won’t work this week. so for the Jags here is what they need to do to win.
LONG TD DRIVES
A healthy dose of Mojo will go a long way as long as it results in TDs. Jones Drew is one of the top backs in the league this year when it comes to yards but he only has score. Jags will need to dominate in the time of possession but if they settle for field goals it will mean nothing and three and outs will make this a blowout real quick.
ELIMINATE THE SHORT TD DRIVES ON D.
I don’t know how many different ways I can say it. The Saints will score points no matter how hard you try to stop them. The key to winning is not letting them score in 3 plays or less. The quicker they score the more chances they get to score, common sense. The Jags defense will need to play the game of their lives to win especially the secondary.
PROTECT BLAINE GABBERT
I have to see if I can find what the NFL record is for consecutive games giving up a safety. It can’t be much more than two games which is the Jags current streak. Gabbert will need time to find the receivers and the O line will have to play better than they have been. And again you don’t want to give the Saints extra points and possessions.
Can you see the theme this week? it’s not a unique situation for the Jags, every team worries about these things when they play the Saints. I hate to say a blowout this week but the Jags haven’t done anything this year to prove they can hang with the Saints. Maybe this week will be the breakout game for the Jags O. our coverage of the Jags and Saints goes down at 10am with the Tailgate Show kickoff is at 1
