Good Draft Day For The Jags

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

It’s something you haven’t seen in Jacksonville in a long time, the ownership and the fans on the same page and the deal getting done. If you asked most fans who the Jags should draft they would say Justin Blackmon from Oklahoma State. The Jags higher ups where thinking the exact same thing because they actually traded up in the draft to get him. The Jags moved up two spots in a trade with Tampa to draft Justin Blackmon and the best part is they only had to part with a fourth round pick.

Blackmon was one of the few players in this draft that could get fans excited. Let’s be honest the Jags could have gone with a pass rusher or offensive lineman which where areas of need but they don’t bring the same buzz that a stud wide receiver does. The Jags where able to fill a big need and bring in a guy that could sell tickets. We know what Jones Drew can do but if Blaine Gabbert can bring it together, Marcedes Lewis can be the player that he was two years ago, and now add Blackmon this offense could be really fun to watch. Put all that together with a defense that looked really good last year we could be talking playoffs for the Jags.

I don’t want to get ahead of things with playoff talk but just look at what Cincinnati did last year with a good defense, young QB and star rookie wide receiver. There is no reason to think the Jags won’t have the ability to do the same. There is still a long way to go and the Jags have some other needs to address in the rest of the draft. It’s just really nice to hear all the commercials about the Jags being “all in” and actually backing it up.
