Blackmon Is Finally All In

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Jags get one of their missing guys into camp this week, Justin Blackmon agreed to terms on a 4 year 18.5 million dollar deal. Blackmon was the last first round pick to sign a deal this year which unfortunately is nothing new for the Jags. While his 11 day holdout is nowhere near derrick Harvey’s 33 days it still is a sore point for Jags fans. It’s so frustrating for fans that see teams like the Patriots, Packers, and Eagles getting their picks in camp on time year after year while the Jags seem to always be late or wait till the last minute.

Because of league rules Blackmon will not be allowed in any contact drills for 3 days so you won’t see him in the Jags first preseason game Friday against the Giants. Which means the two of the biggest pieces in the Jags offense will be out against the defending Super Bowl champs. The first preseason game usually doesn’t see the starters for long. Some coaches do a series or two some coaches will play there starters for a whole quarter but that’s about it. So while we wouldn’t have seen Blackmon or Mojo for long this week it would have been nice to see Mike Mularkey’s new look offense.

The one good thing that comes from missing out on the Mojo Blackmon show is the Jags backups will get some quality reps during game conditions which for some guys might be the difference between making the team and getting cut. Jones Drew and Blackmon are locks to make this team but guys like Charles Gilbert and DuJaun Harris are not. These guys will get an extra look just because Blackmon and Jones Drew aren’t there.
