It's NOT The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

They say good football teams play their best football heading into the playoffs. Just look at the Giants who struggled early last year then got hot at the right time. They made the playoffs on the last day and end up winning the Super Bowl. Now look at the Jags and while we know their record has been good in general but over the last five years they have been dreadful in the final games of the season.

The last time the Jags made the Playoffs was the 2007 season and you can see why when they finished the year with a 6-2 mark. Since then the Jags haven’t been able to finish a season off well. In 2008 the team went 1-7 down the stretch. 2009 wasn’t any different with a 1-5 mark and in 2010 they dropped the final 3 games. Last season was arguably there best finish in a while but even that only resulted in 2 wins and 5 losses over the final 7 games. This year the Jags are off to the same start dropping 3 straight and with New England coming to town they can easily make that losing streak go up.

Different coaches, different owner, and different players but the result remains the same the Jags just don’t finish seasons strong. Sure some of that has to do with the fact that they are already out of the playoff hunt but for at least a couple of those seasons they were in contentions for a division title and at the very least a playoff spot until the late season slide began. If the Jags want to ever see the post season again they need to learn how to finish a season. one or two wins over the final two months just won’t get it done.
