NCAA Tournament Preview

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

So I was joking on my twitter page yesterday @ jaygray_wokv
(shameless self-plug) that football was over is it time for March Madness yet. Little
did I realize how right I was? Yesterday we got a taste with number 1 Kentucky
taking on number 7 Florida. Now that game didn’t end up being too good but I was
a matchup of top 10 teams and today we get more of the same.

It’s an NCAA triple header of ranked teams, all locks for
the tournament doing battle and the best part is all three are rivalry games. First
up its number 2 Syracuse taking on number 11 Georgetown. For years the Big East
has been billed as the best conference in college basketball. The conference usually
gets the most teams in and last year a team from middle of the Big East pack
won the whole thing. This year Georgetown and the Cuse have been a top the
conference all season long and they always have great games. At the same time
you will see a battle of the best in the Big 12, number 6 Baylor at home
against number 10 Kansas. Baylor is one of the surprise teams this season they
were one of the last undefeated teams to lose and they only have two losses all
year. Kansas is always among the top teams in college bball and they find
themselves just a half game back of the lead in the conference. At 9 0’clock it’s
the biggest rivalry in all of college basketball. Number 5 North Carolina at
home against number 9 Duke. This two teams always play tough and sometimes play
in bloody battles against each other. Tonight should be no different.

No one would complain if these were matchups in the Elite 8
of the NCAA Tournament and we get to see them in February. The winner of these
games will have the inside track in battle for number 1 and number 2 seeds in
the big dance. My picks for tonight are Georgetown, Baylor, and UNC. This is a
great sign of things to come as we head into March Madness.
