Blackmon In Court Today

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Justin Blackmon gets his day in court today. If you remember back in early June Blackmon was arrested for blowing a .24 on a breathalyzer, the legal limit in Oklahoma is .08. Blackmon plead not guilty back then to the DUI charge and you have to ask the question is the reason Blackmon doesn’t have a contract yet because of today’s case.

We’ve heard from experts all over the country that the Jags would use the arrest to get a better deal than normal on Blackmon but are they purposely waiting to find out the results of his hearing to give their final offer. My opinion is this is a dangerous game to play. If Blackmon comes out guilty than the Jags are golden, they hold all the cards and could sign Blackmon for a great deal. Problem is if Blackmon comes out free and clear than we could be in for a long contract dispute. This year is more important than ever to get Blackmon in camp this week. Let’s be honest the Jags offense was horrible last season. This year there is real reason for hope. Blaine Gabbert will have his first ever training camp, there is a new coach and offense to learn, and he will be working with a brand new receiving core.  Add to the equation the Jags best offensive weapon will probably be a no show, this offense with so much potential could get off to a slow start.

With two of the Jags first three games coming in the division the Jags can’t afford to learn on the fly and still hope to compete this season.  Jags fans believe this could be the year the losing ends but that can only happen if every piece of the puzzle is in place early on. Today could determine the fate of the Jags this season and we haven’t even started training camp yet.
