An Advantage or Two

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Short weeks are never fun for players but there will be some benefits for the Jags when they take on Indy on Thursday night. First and foremost they are playing a team in the division that they have already seen once this season. It would be much worse if the Jags were taking on a team from the NFC that they only see every four years and have no idea what they are about. This week the Jags get a team they see twice a year and already are very familiar with so the prep should be a little easier.

Another benefit is two straight home games. I know that doesn’t seem like an advantage the way the team has played but the Jags haven’t been on a plane since October 28th and when you play two games in four days the less travel the better. Finally the Jags game this week maybe on short notice but after they play the Jags get a mini bye week. They have extra time to prepare for the division leader that they take on next week and the way Houston is playing any extra time to rest and prepare will help.

Thursday night games are tough on any team but for the Jags this week it could be a lot worse. There is something special for players and fans when the team gets a primetime game and the Jags seem to step up when they are on the national stage. Hopefully they step it up this week because NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell will be in attendance on Thursday and you don’t want to embarrass yourself in front of the boss.
