A bye week is a perfect time for changes especially after a 1-4 start. You have an extra week for the players to get accustom to their new roles and it gives you more time to prepare for the next opponent. However, I don’t see the Jags making any major changes in the next week.
After the poor start and the lack of any offense Jags fans are calling for the heads of everyone from Blaine Gabbert to GM Gene Smith. You won’t see Gabbert get benched because in all honesty what’s the point. I don’t see Chad Henne as a big upgrade at the position and he won’t lead the Jags to the playoffs. If Chad Henne won’t make a huge improvement and isn’t going to make this team better over the next few seasons then why not give Gabbert the experience. There is more of an upside in the long haul to keep Gabbert in the game then benching him. Gene Smith isn’t going anywhere this season anyway. I can’t remember a GM being let go mid-season especially when you got a new coach and owner in the previous offseason. If he was going to be out they would have gotten rid of him then and not now. As for Mike Mularkey there is zero chance for him to be out. You have to give him a little time to install an offense and at least get some players that fit his system. Remember with very few exceptions this team has the exact same players as last year.
I know all the fans what to see some change that will turn this losing around and who can blame them. The problem is nothing the Jags can do at this point will lead to a huge turn around. The offseason is a different story, that’s when we may see the big changes that turn the Jags into a winner. For now we have to wait and the players will have to use this time as a tryout for next year.
