Injury Update

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Well we got both good news and bad news on the Jags injuries. Good news is Blaine Gabbert’s shoulder isn’t as bad as we all thought. Mike Mularkey said he has a good chance to play on Sunday and possibly have a normal week of practice. Maurice Jones Drew is another story. He has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Packers and we really don’t know what’s wrong with him. After the swelling goes down he will have more test and we should get a better idea how severe the injury is later in the week.

Obviously best case scenario is both these guys make it make on the field as soon as possible but from what I’ve seen so far it’s better to get Blaine Gabbert right away and the Jags can live without Mojo for a little while. If the preseason tells us anything than Rashad Jennings is more than capable than filling the shoes of Mojo. Not just the preseason but in game one and last week Jennings has looked solid in this role as a feature back. The only question that I have with him is can he stay healthy. He missed all of last year and got hurt in the first game of the year. If he can keep himself injury free the Jags should be fine. Blaine Gabbert is a different story. We saw how much the offense struggled once he was lost. Going into this week a lot of Jags fans were calling for Gabbert to hit the bench well they saw why he was the starter after Chad Henne’s awful performance.

The Jags probably didn’t have much of a chance to beat the Packers in Green Bay even with all their starters healthy but the rest of the season could be really ugly if the two most important people on offense miss an extended period of time. A season that started with so much promise has turned into a disaster between injuries and poor play. The rest of the year might not be about turning it around it might be about trying to survive.
