Injury Update Part II

Previous Posts

By Jay Gray

Good and bad news again on the injury front with the Jags two most important offensive stars. Starting with Blaine Gabbert it appears he has a torn Labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. The good news is It shouldn’t hinder him from throwing but the bad news is he may be in a lot of pain if he does play. The question is do you play him this week or not. If it was me making the call (obviously it’s not) I would sit him this week. Let’s be realistic, the Jags probably weren’t going to win this week in Green Bay even if everyone is healthy. Why put a banged up Blaine Gabbert against Clay Mathews and that tough Packer D.

For Maurice Jones Drew he has a sprained foot. The good news is he doesn’t need surgery but the bad news is the Jags will be without him for multiple games. In anticipation of MJD being out a while the Jags resigned running back Keith Toston. You might remember him running pretty well for the Jags during the preseason and he was one last people cut from the Jags. The interesting part is the Redskins just cut running back Ryan Grant. He was a big part of the Green Bay offense for a while and the Jags didn’t even take a look at him. My guess is it’s because the Jags just need a guy on the roster for a short time and not a back for the rest of the year.

Injuries are never good but when it happens to your starting QB and running back it is a disaster. Good news is the Jags aren’t in the middle of a playoff run so the loss probably won’t change the outcome of the year too much. The Jags can use this time to evaluate the talent on this team especially in the case of Mojo. If the Jags can live without him they may let him go and avoid a long and distracting hold out this offseason. If they struggle even worse without Mojo maybe they give him the contract he wants to avoid the long and distracting holdout. Either way this maybe the one and only shot Rashad Jennings gets to prove he can be a starting running back in this league.
