Big game for the Jags this week when they take on Cincinnati,
if they win and they head to 2-2 and get a crucial win against a playoff team
from last year. If the Jags lose you can almost guarantee it will be because of
A.J. Green. Green is second in the league in receiving yards and in the Bengals
only loss this season he didn’t score. Win or lose it will be a memorable day
for the Jags and fans because Fred Taylor will be inducted into the Pride of
the Jaguars.
Taylor played 11 of his 13 seasons with the Jags after being
drafted 9th overall in the 1998 season. Taylor rushed for 11,695
yards and had 66 TDs in his career. His rushing total is good enough to land
him 15th on the all-time rushing list. So the big question is
whether or not Taylor makes the Hall of Fame. It used to be that any rusher who
gained over 10,000 yards in his career was a lock to get into the Hall but that’s
not the case anymore. Taylor had one of the quietest 10,000 yard careers in
history that maybe because he played in Jacksonville or because in Fred’s prime
there were so many other good running backs. Case in point he only made the Pro
Bowl one time in his career and that was because someone else was injured and
couldn’t play.
You could make the case that Fred Taylor was one of the best
of all time in the history of the NFL but you could also make the case he wasn’t
one of the backs in the NFL during his 13 seasons. There is one thing there is
no doubt about, Fred Taylor was one of the best Jaguars in history. That’s why
he gets the Honor of being the second player ever inducted into the Pride of
the Jaguars. With only one other player in the Pride right now you know the
Jags are very selective of who gets inducted. It didn’t take long after his retirement
for Fred to earn his place proving there was no doubt he deserves to be there.
