4/22: Strip club shooting; wild chase

By Rich Jones

Warm and dry through Easter Sunday.  Humid air today and again tomorrow.  Not as hot early next week.

Say it aint so!  The National Weather service has been watching an area of disturbance north of the Leeward Islands.  It's unlikely the system will develop but if it does it would be a non-tropical system with tropical characteristics.

Breaking News:  One person is dead, another is in critical condition following a shooting outside a strip club on the southside.  Two suspects took off, leading police on a chase through several neighborhoods.  Both have been arrested. The victim was shot outside Club Climax at Phillips and Bowden.

Emotions run high ahead of a decision on the fate of four struggling schools on Jacksonville's Northside.  The management structure is about to change at Raines, Ribault, Andrew Jackson and Northshore.

As a Jacksonville officer fights to improve at the hospital, Sheriff John Rutherford says officer Terry Thiem should have been buckled up.  Thiem suffered critical injuries in Wednesday's violent crash on the westside while he was responding to a burglary call.  Rutherford says his officers are required to wear their seat belt while on patrol.

The accused ringleader in that sickening murder of a teenager in Marion County is facing the death penalty if convicted.  18 year-old Michael Bargo is one of several people accused of killing Seath Jackson, burning his body and putting his remains in cans.  Cops say Jackson was lured to the house by his ex-girlfriend because her new boyfriend planned to kill him.

An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a retired Marine.  Police say 22-year old Lucious Jackson robbed Gregory Chisholm for 5 dollars but when he tried to resist he shot and killed him.

Today is our Stand Up For America event with Washington Bureau Chief Jamie Dupree.  Hear Jamie explain what fuzzy math is being used in the current budget fight.

Fuzzy math in the Washington budget fight.  Budget experts say the President's deficit reduction plan does not save as much as first advertised.  But neither does the Republican plan offered by Paul Ryan.   Hear Jamie Dupree explain why the gap between both plans is really wide.

Senator John Ensign is on his way out.  The Nevada Republican says he's stepping down May 3rd to spare his family the pain of an ethics investigation.  He denies any ethics violation in connection with his affair with a former staffer.   Hear Jamie Dupree explain why Ensign's seat is so critical to Republicans.

BP is cutting another check, more than a year after the gulf oil spill.  Florida and four other states will share 100 million dollars each for early oil spill restoration projects.

Hoping to bring some clarity to the unrest in Libya, Senator John McCain is in Benghazi to meet with anti-government rebels trying to overthrow Moammar Gadhafi.  His trip comes as Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced that armed Predator drones are being used against forces loyal to Gadhafi.
