Our Top Local Story: All eyes on Hurricane Irene--the forecast track puts it over Jacksonville as a hurricane Friday. Irene is moving across Puerto Rico, pounding the area with torrential rains and winds. We'll be watching the track of Irene very closely throughout the week. It's back to class across Jacksonville. And for the parents of kids in several magnet schools, the ride to class is different. Clean-up and investigation of a gas station explosion continues in St. Johns County. And it's leading to a slight stall for the first day of school near Masters Drive and State Road 16. Expect delays as people look for alternate routes to work and to get their kids to school.
Plans for a toll road on the city's westside is pitting Mayor Brown against the Clay County Commission. The mayor tells the Times Union it's a mistake to pursue a toll road for the planned "outer beltway" when the economy is in bad shape. Clay County Commission Chairman Travis Cummings says to avoid new taxes, the best way to fund the beltway is through tolls.
A Ponte Vedra Beach pilot is killed at a Kansas City air show. Bryan Jensen was performing maneuvers in his small plane when he failed to pull out of a dive in time and crashed. Jensen was an accomplished commercial pilot, having logged over 23-thousand hours of flight time for several major airlines.
Another air show disaster comes from Michigan, when a stunt man falls more than 200 feet from a plane during an air show.
A newlywed couple has now been missing for a week, and police need your help in finding them. 36-year-old Jeanette Hawkins and her husband, 31-year-old Ricardo Morgan, were last seen last Monday on Woolery Drive in Arlington. Jeanette's mother, Vanessa Reed says it's unlike her to disappear the way she did. Police have not ruled out foul play.
