Our Top Local Story: Up to 200 new jobs could be coming to Jacksonville, if the Bruss Company gets $500,000 in incentives up for approval by city council tonight. Also tonight is a decision to extend the option to buy three downtown parking garages with taxpayer money, a move that could save the city cash in the long run. In the past five years the city has given $16 million to the developers to help with maintenance.
Robbery and gunfire at a southside apartment complex. Jacksonville police were called to the Woodhollow Apartments on Hodges just south of Atlantic before Midnight. Police at the scene have said they expect the shooting victim to survive.
The proposed sale of the Jaguars could be decided tomorrow by NFL owners. They'll vote on Shad Khans offer to take over 100% ownership from Wayne Weaver and several minority partners. Governor Scott says he hasn't spoken with Khan about bringing Flex 'n Gate to Jacksonville but says he'd like to see that happen.
Police in Gainesville are working to get a rapist off the streets. They say he attacked a woman Friday night as she walked to her car near Sorority Row. The woman managed to escape by faking an asthma attack.
A Jacksonville veteran comes home to a rude surprise: Two men, guns pointed, after her belongings. 28 year-old Lisa Blackwell says she didn't even have time to get to her door Friday before she the two men took her purse, some clothes, and her dinner. She also lost her license, military ID, and social security card.
More trouble for the FAMU marching band. Three members of the band arrested on hazing charges in connection with an assault on a freshman band member. Police say they hit a woman on her legs with their fists and a metal ruler so hard that she suffered a broken thigh bone and blood clots in her legs. This latest incident is unrelated to the one which killed Robert Champion during a trip to Orlando.
North Jacksonville may soon be getting its own hospital. Shands has been approved to build a new facility at I-95 and Duval Road. The hospital could open in three to five years and will have 100 beds. Cost is $125 million.
Former Penn State Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky is face to face with some of his accusers today. It's a preliminary hearing in the child sex abuse scandal that has rocked the campus.
Four Army pilots are killed when two helicopters crash in Washington state. The crash happened at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and two other people were hurt. The base commander calls it a tragic accident and promises a thorough investigation into what happened.
The Supreme Court will hear Arizona's controversial law targeting illegal immigrants. Governor Jan Brewer says she's confident the court will rule in her state's favor. Justice Elena Kagan will recuse herself because of her previous role as Solicitor General.
Another payroll tax cut extension is poised to pass the Republican-run House today, but it contains a provision to force work on a controversial oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. The administration says it needs more study. Republicans characterize the $180 billion overall measure as one that would help create jobs, while Democrats say it is too stingy.
Lawmakers have agreed on a $662 billion defense bill they're hoping will satisfy President Obama. Leaders of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees say their proposal also would require military custody for terrorism suspects linked to al-Qaida.
The Federal Reserve holds its final policy meeting of the year today. Reserve officials are expected to fine-tune their strategy for announcing changes in short-term interest rates. That would help assure investors and consumers that rates wouldn't go up before a certain time.
