6/27: Rain and storm chances all week

Our Top Local Story is breaking news of a search for a missing swimmer in Atlantic Beach.  The guy was last seen around 8pm, a few blocks north of A1A.  We don't know much about the swimmer, but the Coast Guard has been out searching through the night.   Hear Kevin Rincon's 8:53am update after speaking with Coast Guard officials. 

Heavy rain over the weekend helped firefighters get the upper-hand in the Espanola fire in Flagler County.  It's now 70 percent contained, but the fire threat is not completely gone. 

A final salute to a pair of brave firefighters, more than one-thousand mourners attended funeral services for Josh Burch and Brett Fulton.  They were using bulldozers to contain a 12 acre fire that suddenly flared up in Hamilton County.

Chance are good that you'll run into Mayor-elect Alvin Brown this week.  He's touring the city today and tomorrow--part of his week-long inagural activities.  On Friday, Brown will be sworn into office at City Hall.

Jacksonville Police are investigating a pair of weekend murders.  In the first one, a gunman fired as many as nine shots into a crowd of people on Benedict Road, killing a man.  Just ten minutes later, police were called to Savannah Oaks Apartments just noth of NAS Jax in which a woman was killed in what appears to be a domestic disturbance.

A man who robbed people attending a wedding at a Jacksonville Beach hotel is shot dead by police.  Police say they caught the man shortly after he pulled off the armed robbery.  Police say they were forced to shoot him when he pointed a gun at them and refused their repeated commands to drop it.

Crescent Beach becomes a makeshift landing strip for a small plane.  Dan Holiday's plane engine died in mid-air, forcing the emergency landing. No one was hurt.

One magazine isn't too keen on picking Jacksonville as a place to raise your kids.  Men's Health ranked it last on a list of the safest cities in the U.S. to raise your kids.  It was even rated more dangerous than New Orleans, Baltimore, and Oklahoma City.  The study was based on sex offenders per capita, percentage of abused children, and accidental deaths.

Our Top National Story:  President Obama gets his hands dirty in talks about the budget and debt limit. Obama meets at 10:30 this morning with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, then separately this afternoon with the Senate's top Republican, Mitch McConnell.  Some Republicans walked away from the table last week.   Hear Jamie Dupree explain what the President may be able to accomplish. 

You Decide 2012:  Michele Bachmann officially enters the presidential race today with an announcement
in her childhood hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.  Bachman is polling strong in Iowa, in a statistical dead heat with Mitt Romney.   Hear Jamie Dupree explain why Bachman is surging and Tim Pawlenty is slumping in Iowa.

It'll take weeks before the Souris River retreats from Minot, North Dakota and returns to its banks. But the river has peaked and residents are beginning to think about recovery. Owners of the 4,000 homes that were
damaged or destroyed are pondering the future.

We heard from Fox News reporter Todd Starnes on the new same sex marriage law that was voted into law in New York over the weekend. 

Gas prices are falling as the summer rolls on.  The average in Jacksonville is $3.46 a gallon.  Nationally it's $3.63, down 11 cents over last week.
