5/5: Mosque bomber killed

By Rich Jones

A cool morning but perfect afternoon.  Temps are in the upper 70's with a lot of sun and a refreshing breeze.  Changes tomorrow, as we turn a bit warmer and see a chance of a shower or thunderstorm.  Warm and humid for Mother's Day weekend.

Our Top Local Story:  Caught on camera, killed in an instant.  The guy who pipe-bombed a Jacksonville mosque last year is shot by the FBI in Oklahoma.  Sandlin Smith pulled an AK-47 on the cops when they moved in yesterday.  His motives are unclear, but the FBI says it's heard things like he was a bigot.

Our Top National Story:  From the heart of the terror strike on America, President Obama will lay a wreath at a memorial at the former World Trade Center site.  Hear Jamie Dupree explain why Obama is choosing to meet privately with some family members. One question on the mind is the decision to keep the bin Laden photos  private.  One of Obama's critics says he trusts the White House decision.   Hear Jamie Dupree explain why Senator Marco Rubio calls it a complicated issue.

I asked Neal Boortz about Pakistan's warning to America of the "disastrous consequences" if it carries out any other unilateral raids against suspected terrorists in the country.

Pakistan's army chief is meeting with top commanders to talk about the raid that killed bin Laden.  The Pakistani army has not explained when and how it learned about the operation, or why it didn't take any action.  Some in Congress are calling for cuts, and even the elimination, of more than one billion dollars in aid to Pakistan.

Some were trusted professionals...we're learning new details about the men busted in a sex sting in St. Johns County. 17 men were arrested when they tried to meet up with cops who were posing as underage kids on Craigslist.   Joshua Johnson is a math teacher from Hilliard Middle-Senior High School.  Ronald Thompson is an optician in Jacksonville.

It's a steady turnout in You Decide 2011.  Nearly 5%percent of registered voters have turned out in the first three days of early voting.  Where do Alvin Brown and Mike Hogan stand on the big issues of spending and taxes?  What are the differences?  Be listening to a special edition of Jacksonville's Morning News tomorrow at eight, as we hear exclusively from the Mayoral candidates.

A cop is shot in the chaotic moments of a drug bust.  The Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy was hit in the shoulder last night during the bust in Interlachen.  The woman who opened fire on the SWAT team was also shot.  Both the cop and the woman are hospitalized.

You will have an important voice in the future of Obamacare.  Florida lawmakers are putting an amendment on the ballot next year that would ban government requirements to buy health insurance.

WOKV Money Watch:  Where to start with such a deep debt?  Vice President Biden sits down with top lawmakers in budget talks today.

Jacksonville ranks number two in the nation in cities with residents in debt.  The average debt for Jacksonville residents is just over $5,100.  Credit counselors say in order to pay that amount off in 18 months while continuing to pay other bills, the debtor would need to earn a salary of at least $75,000 a year.

Thousands of people from Illinois to Louisiana are fleeing their homes before record-breaking floods roll down the Mississippi River.
