10/11: Scott pushes to recapture pension savings  

Still muggy and warm with rain and a thunderstorm through this evening.  We dry out tomorrow but stay warm.  By the weekend it's back to sunny and comfortable temps for the weekend.

An F-1 tornado spun up from the St. Johns River and raked through Fleming Island during the overnight hours yesterday.  Wind damaged upwards of 30 homes.  No one was hurt.

Our Top Local Story:  Governments in Florida could soon have to pay up millions to the state as they work to recapture money saved through pensions. The idea by Governor Scott is to make cities and county governments pay back the money they saved by having employees pay 3% into their retirements.  When employees started to pay into their pensions local governments saved money.

State economists will figure out just how bad Florida's financial situation will be during the coming year. 
They're meeting today to draw up a new forecast on state tax collections amid signs that Florida's economy has been stalling over the last few months.  The early estimate is a $2 billion shortfall next year due to dropping tax collections.

Our Top National Story is the latest update in You Decide 2012:  A lot is at stake for Rick Perry in another Republican debate tonight New Hampshire.  He's fighting off the momentum of Herman Cain, who sits behind Mitt Romney in two new polls.

President Obama is coming to Florida for a pair of fundraisers in Orlando.  The president's visit includes a fundraiser at a hotel in downtown Orlando and another one at the home of attorney John Morgan.  Obama has raised $1.1 million in Florida through June, the latest period detailed figures are available.

Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty says he might have stayed in the Republican presidential race longer had he known it would be this volatile.  Pawlenty left the race in August after finishing third in the Iowa straw poll in which he says he invested heavily.

The wife of former Governor Charlie Crist is changing her voter registration to a Democrat.  Crist left the Republican party during his run for the Senate, to become an independent.  And he says he intends to remain without a party.

President Obama is on the move again today to sell his jobs bill to the voters, while the Senate gets ready for gridlock on it.  Today's test vote in a Senate classic - a motion to shut off debate on the motion to start debate on the jobs bill. Democrats will need 60 votes to push ahead, and that's still in question.

Boston police have arrested more than 50 protesters from the Occupy Boston movement after they ignored warnings to move from a site near their official encampment.

A group protesting against war and corporate greed is given an extension for rallies near the White House. The demonstrators have accepted an offer by U.S. Park Police to extend their permit to protest at Freedom Plaza by four months.

The Occupy Jacksonville group is planning another gathering this Saturday to establish their goals, an action plan and what they stand for.  They're urging members to do their homework. 

Former Florida GOP Boss Jim Greer re-files his lawsuit against Former Leader John Thrasher and other state GOP leaders.  He's seeking $5 million in damages for being denied his severance pay.  Former party chair John Thrasher says the case has already been dismissed once and will probably be dismissed again.   

Two weeks after a horrific crash at a fruit stand at Moncrief and Edgewood Avenue, the husband who owned that stand has died.  65-year-old Pablo Baltierra died of multiple organ failure and internal bleeding.  His death comes two weeks after his wife, Julia, was killed in the crash.

The NBA slam-dunks the first two weeks of the regular season.  Commissioner David Stern wiping out 100 games after the players and owners failed to reach a new labor deal.  More games could be lost soon -- Stern says a "gulf" still separates the two sides.
